Genealogy of the Kimmel Family. - Michael Kimmel was born in Germany, October 1626, was married November 1689, and had three sons and one daughter, Philip, Valentine, Jacob and Elizabeth. Philip was born November, 1695, was married to Elizabeth Tolston in 1719 at the age of 24 years, in the Kingdom of Bavaria and had six sons, Philip, Nicholas, Jacob, Michael, George and Anthony. George was born December 21, 1743 in the Kingdon of Bavaria, was married to Julia Ruly August 1769 in York County, Pennsylvania, and had three sons and five daughters, Peter, George, Henry, Catherine, Susanah, Elizabeth, Magdaline, and Julyanna. Peter was born November 17, 1771, at Bedford, now Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and was married, and had four sons, Singleton, Allen, Byron and Cyrus. Peter died September 2, 1843, and was buried at Jonesboro, Illinois. Philip, our subject's grandfather, has no record as to whom he married or when he died, but to him was born six sons and one daughter, Philip, John, Daniel, George, Benjamin, David and Mary. Daniel, the father of our subject, was married to Catherine Hunsaker (who was born October 6, 1792, died May 11, 1861, aged 68 years, 7 months and five days) September 16, 1809, and had two sons and five daughters, George W., Philip, Mary, Louisa, Jemima, Melvina and Anna. Anna was born December 12, 1831, went to Texas when young and was married to Crawford Trees, also a native of Union County. They took out the first marriage license in Dallas County, Texas. To them were born six sons and four daughters and at this writing she is still living. George W. Kimmel, our subject, was born August 29, 1820, in Union County, Illinois, was married to Eliza J. Smith, August 18, 1842; to them were born eight sons and three daughters, Philip, Daniel, John, Josiah, William, Orcemius, Walter G., George, Mary and Martha (twins) and Sarah. They lived a few years after marriage in the Mississippi bottoms, but after the overflow of 1844, bought and moved to what is known as the Homestead Farm, five miles south of Anna, Ill., where they lived the remainder of their lives. Said Homestead Farm is still kept by the Kimmel family, now oned by his son, Walter G. Our subject and his wife were both members of the Baptist Church and had set apart a small portion of ground in the northwest corner of Homestead Farm as a family cemetery, where they are both buried. George W. died April 4, 1876, aged 55 years, 7 months and 5 days. His wife was born October 30, 1823, and died February 18 1885, aged 61 years, 3 months and 18 days.
