Happy Scrappers Quilt

The Tenth Annual “Pieces of the PAST” Quilt and Table Show sponsored by P.A S.T. Of Union County is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 9:00 a.m To 2:00 p.m.

The location is the Anna Heights Baptist Church Family Life Center located at 100 Turner Avenue, Anna, Illinois.

The theme selected for 2012 is “THROUGH THE SEASONS: A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST”. Admission to exhibits from 9:00-12:00 is $10. Reservations for the luncheon and program (includes visit to exhibits) for $25.

Quilts and their stories will be on exhibit starting at 9:00 a.m. People’s Choice Awards will be made to individual quilt entries, as well as to “Heritage Displays” using quilts and other historic items in the displays.

Also on display at 9:00 a.m. Will be decorative table settings designed to showcase fine or vintage china, crystal, silver, floral arrangements, or other interesting collectibles used as table appointments.

The noon luncheon prepared and served by the Home and Community Education Association (HCE) of Union County will feature an entrée, salad and homemade pie for dessert. The luncheon will be served to guests at the decorative table settings, using the exquisite table ware.

Following the luncheon, guests will be entertained with a Traditional Quilt Turning. Since, 2012 is a commemoration of the Civil War anniversary, that “season” will be featured in the quilt turning with quilts that help to tell about life of folks during the Civil War era.

An additional treat will be the appearance of Marlene Rivero from Grand Chain, Illinois in the role of Mrs. Elizabeth Keckly. Mrs. Keckly was seamtress for the Abraham Lincoln family and dressmaker of Mary Todd Lincoln. Rivero presents “a glimpse of the past” as she speaks of “her” very special relationship as friend and confidante to Mrs. Lincoln.

“The Happy Scrappers” Quilt Club of Union County has made, and donated to PAST, an Underground Railroad Sampler Code Quilt. As a fund raiser for PAST projects, the quilt is being raffled with a goal of at least $431. (There were 431 soldiers from Union County who died in the Civil War, so this number was chosen in their honor.) Tickets will be on sale at the Quilt and Table Show and it is expected that the goal will be reached and the drawing will take place at the April 14th event. For information or to loan a quilt or share a story, call Barbara at 618-833-3228. To volunteer to do a table setting or to make a luncheon and program reservation, call Sharon at 618-833-6589.

P.A.S.T. is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization whose work is done by volunteers. The basic goal of P.A.S.T. is to encourage an appreciation of the structures in Union County, Illinois so that individuals, businesses, and groups will help to preserve these treasures for the future by finding new and functional ways to use them. One of the best ways we have found to do this is by making their history available to others through a variety of methods. The Home and Structure Tours, Website, and the P.A.S.T. Museum projects are ways to share this information.  New  PAST  Home is located at 313 South Street, Anna, IL.
